Script rewrite

Below is the part of the scene where I included some additional story dialogue. The added text is highlighted in bold.

TOM (CONTD)

She can't leave me.

GERALDINE

Ah now stop that, she'll be fine.

TOM

Not this time. I think I'm losing her. She's all I've got.

PAUSE.

GERALDINE

Do you remember when you first found out she was ill?

               TOM

That was a long time ago now Geraldine.

GERALDINE

You told me you felt so helpless.

TOM

          God I hated feeling like that.

GERALDINE

And all you could think of was the first time you ever saw her cry. She fell and started crying. You just held her and stroked her hair. Then she stopped. All was calm.

TOM

It was all I could think to do. Not much really.

GERALDINE

But you were there for her Tom. Just like you’re there for her now. You’ve always been there. And she knows it.

TOM

But she’s so sick now… I don’t think that’ll be enough.

GERALDINE

You have to believe it will. And I'll be here for you.

TOM

Yeah... Like you were before?

GERALDINE

I'm here now aren't I?

Tom doesn't look at Geraldine. Geraldine tries to grab his attention.

GERALDINE (CONTD)

Just because I left doesn't mean you can give up. You've got to be strong for her and for yourself.

Tom sits silenced. He looks at his watch.

TOM

I should be getting back.

He stands and begins to walk away before turning back to Geraldine.

TOM (CONTD)

You'll be back won't ya?

GERALDINE

If you need me to...

Tom walks away.
